Photons as Quanta of Energy
Photons, the fundamental units of light, are essential to our comprehension of the universe, though they are often underestimated. These massless entities carry both energy and momentum, allowing them to interact with matter in significant ways. When photons encounter particles or atoms, they can transfer energy, causing these particles to oscillate at specific frequencies. This quantised behaviour resembles the quantum characteristics of electrons, which exist in discrete energy levels within atoms. Through energy quantisation, photons may serve as the foundational elements of all matter.
Photons and the Fabric of Space-Time
The constant speed of light defines the very fabric of space-time. Photons, travelling at this unchanging speed, can cover vast distances, making them perfect carriers of information across the cosmos. They facilitate interactions between charged particles and electromagnetic fields, effectively “weaving” the structure of space-time. Acting as the threads that bind reality together, photons shape the underlying framework of our universe.
